It seems like Matt Walsh and his fellow idiots over at the Daily Wire are extremely triggered by women who don’t have kids. I thought their whining had died down — but no. They are still at it. The most recent thing to set them off is a young 20-something woman who shared a TikTok detailing a day in her life as a single woman without kids. It was very innocent and sweet: she basically said that she’d like to have a husband and kids someday, but until that happens, she’s learning to appreciate her life just as it is.
And…of course…Matt Walsh got his little panties in a bunch over this. He said: “If you don’t have a family, at least do something interesting with your time. These people have absurd amounts of free time and they do absolutely nothing with it. Wasting their lives staring at little glowing boxes. Absolutely soul crushing.”
Oh, the irony.
Dear Matt Walsh: You don’t do anything interesting with your time. You must have absurd amounts of free time because you are wasting your life away uploading your illogical rants onto a little glowing box. You’re obviously very unhappy with your life, and you cope by projecting your misery onto innocent bystanders. YOUR life is soul-crushing.
Matt Walsh and his goons have made it abundantly clear that the only things they find interesting are beer, procreation, and complaining about trivial things on social media. They have also made it clear that they believe women are worthless unless they are mothers. This poor young woman (or any woman, for that matter) could never earn their stamp of approval doing anything other than getting pregnant or giving birth.
But the beautiful thing is, the opinions expressed on the Daily Wire don’t matter. These talking heads don’t matter. They are just click-bate style marketers, pushing out ridiculous content in order to get more engagement and revenue. A word to the wise: if someone has to stir up drama or act like an idiot to get attention, it’s because they don’t actually have anything meaningful to contribute.
With that being said, I quickly wrote up a brief overview of a few days in my life from the past month or so. It’s probably not interesting to anybody, and you know what? That’s okay. Because I don’t live my life to entertain other people. I’m just here to honor God, love my neighbors, share my faith, and have some fun.

We had Sunday school and church in the morning, went on a little lunch date to CoreLife, then afterward we headed over to Start Skydiving. They were pretty busy so we only had time for one jump. We originally planned on doing a 2-way belly, but we met a guy who was new to the DZ and just doing solo jumps, so we invited him onto our jump. It was pretty fun, I was actually able to control my fall rate for once. Afterward, I headed over to one of our elder’s houses for the youth group summer session. We all had burgers and chips and had a great time outside singing hymns and hearing the message. We played some volleyball, and then I dropped off a couple of the girls on my way home.

I worked a few hours in the morning, then I headed over to the church to connect with the kids from the youth group. We all loaded up into a van and went over to the Clear Creek Metro Park for a long hike. It was hot out but beautiful, and at the halfway point we stopped for lunch overlooking the water. We wrapped up the hike, stopped for Blizzards at Dairy Queen, and headed back to church. I waited at the church for all the kids to get picked up, then I went home and worked a bit more. Then I made a big charcuterie board for dinner, and Dave and I ate on the back deck then played Scrabble and Battleship until bedtime.

We had Sunday school and church in the morning, then went on a lunch date to Condado Taco. After Condado, we went to the bookstore and picked up a few books each, then headed to Winans Coffee and Chocolate. We grabbed some chocolates and a couple glasses of wine and went down the options list for Dave’s potential next assignment. We ranked each job and location, and Dave noted all the options he wanted to interview for. After that, we headed home and read on the back deck until it got dark, then tidied up the house and went to sleep.

My company flew me to Las Vegas for DEFCON 31. My time there was a lovely blur of hacker villages, meeting with potential job candidates, team dinners, and exploring Vegas with some of my favorite humans. Some of the highlights were getting to see my childhood friend Hillary, hanging out in the Caesar’s pool and dining at Hell’s Kitchen with Dasha and Lauren, and getting to explore Vegas with some of my coworkers that I talk to literally every single day, but only met for the first time on this trip.
August 14-24, 2023

Turns out DEFCON was a super spreader event, and myself and a good number of my coworkers ended up with nasty bouts of COVID. I quarantined for the recommended two weeks, and the first several days of the illness were pretty rough so I mainly just stayed in bed and slept. My friends were all so sweet while I wasn’t feeling well: my neighbor Chris brought over cough drops and flowers, and my friend Angelle brought stew, cornbread, and apple pie. My coworker Bohdan sent me chocolate and get well soon flowers (he arranged it all the way from Ukraine!) and my friend Melody dropped off cookies and some meds. Dave was a very good nurse, and I was once again reminded how lucky I am to have him as my life partner.

In the morning I dropped some donation bags off at Goodwill, then picked up a prescription at Walgreens. Then I stopped at the post office to send out a care package to a friend. After I got home I made a big dinner (penne in tomato cream sauce, meatballs, garlic knots, tossed salad, and homemade peanut butter cups) and dropped it off for a neighbor who was recovering from shoulder surgery. After that Dave and I headed to Middletown Regional Airport to connect with Chris, John, Gina, and Sharam for Hops in the Hangar, a craft beer event + airshow. We had a great time hanging out with everyone, sampling beer, and watching the stunt planes and Team Fastrax. Dave and I both ended up taking flights in a T-6 Texan as well which was very cool.

We had Sunday School and church in the morning, then after church let out we connected with our friends and their baby for lunch. After lunch the five of us went for a hike in the Sugarcreek Metro Park, then we went home and I immediately headed back to church for the youth group kickoff night. We had a time of fellowship and heard a great message from the youth pastor, and then we broke apart into small groups for a time of prayer and reflection. After that, we all played dodgeball, and I dropped a couple of the girls off on the way home. Once I got home I made a quick late dinner for me and Dave, and then we went to bed because he had an early morning flight to catch.

I worked my usual full day, and on my breaks, I did a lot of organizing and purging around the house. I got the closets in both guest bedrooms completely emptied out and prepped some more donation bags. I listed a few things for sale on Facebook Marketplace, got immediate offers and those folks came to pick up their purchases. I got some crockpots going with snacks for the high school Bible study and made up some dips and a fruit platter. After work, I did a quick tidying of the house, and then the youth pastor and some of the high schoolers arrived. We had a great study time and went through the first chapter of “Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper, then hung out and played some games. After everybody left I did up the dishes and read a few chapters before bed.

In the morning I dropped off more donation bags at Goodwill, then met up with my friend Morgan at Kroger to do some grocery shopping for the youth group ladies’ night at my house that night. We got everything we needed for a taco bar and ice cream station, and I took everything home and unloaded it into the fridge and freezer. I went for a walk with my neighbor, then took a shower and did my hair and makeup. I put out all the items for facials and manicures, and then Morgan came over and we started cooking. A dozen girls from the church youth group came over and we had dinner and dessert, painted our nails, did face masks, and sang karaoke. After they left I cleaned up the house, read a few chapters, then went to bed.

I had Sunday School and church in the morning, then afterward I cooked lunch and then prepped a gnocchi dinner for Dave to eat once he got home from the airport. I ran a couple quick loads of laundry and sorted and folded it while catching up on some episodes of Big Brother. The youth pastor called and asked if I could grab a few extra things for youth group, so I loaded up my car with some kitchen gadgets, then swung by Kroger for a few extra grocery items. Youth Group was a pajama party and movie night, and we provided breakfast foods for the kids. We all curled up with our food and watched Inside Out, then hung out for a bit after. I got home just as Dave was getting back from the airport, and we snuggled up in bed and chatted until we fell asleep.
Of course, this isn’t a comprehensive breakdown of the last month(ish) of my life. I had some days that were really productive, some that were exciting, and some that were extremely boring. Because that’s just how life works. Whether you are married or single, whether you have kids or are child-free, you’re going to have awesome days and not-so-awesome days. Fortunately, regardless of your relationship or parental status, and no matter what kind of day you’re having, you are not in any way obligated to get a stamp of approval from anybody at the Daily Wire.
