Pray for Vegas

Yesterday evening a lone gunman on the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel released a barrage of bullets into a crowd of innocent concertgoers below. At least 50 people were killed, and more than 400 others were injured. How any one person could be so consumed by evil is inconceivable to me. But I am reminded that even though this was carried out by a lone gunman, the gunman was not alone. Satan was with him and in him. Satan is the god of this age, and his hand is apparent in every single act of violence and sin. That is such a chilling thought.

We live in a world that is the dominion of the evil one. Satan is the adversary, the enemy of all that is good. And yet, these acts of violence and chaos that Satan is stirring up are simply a means of distraction. Satan’s ultimate goal is to drag as many souls to hell with him as he can. And he is doing a bang-up job of it. He is using these senseless acts of violence to get people focusing on all the wrong things. People are focusing on the evil surrounding us on all sides, and are crippled with fear and blinded to the truth. “The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ.”

The truth is that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, and He has already overcome the world and defeated the grave. No matter what chaos Satan brings to this world, the truth remains the same: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He came to earth and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross as our substitute, taking our sin onto Himself. He raised from the dead and ascended to Heaven, and is at this very moment seated at the right hand of God the Father. And if you believe this, and the Holy Spirit is convicting you that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, and that Jesus is that Savior, then you can receive the gift of eternal life and have no reason to fear anything in this world.

No matter what chaos Satan unleashes upon this world, God is still on His throne. His Salvation is still available to a lost world. So hold your loved ones close and continue to #prayforvegas, but remember to keep your eyes fixed firmly on Jesus. Continue to spread the Good News of His salvation to a world that is blinded to the light. And do not be afraid! Jesus has overcome, and the grave is overwhelmed. The victory is already won, because He is risen from the dead.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.
